An embargo is a temporary access restriction placed on the file you deposit. At UPOU, an embargo typically lasts for one year, renewable annually. For example, maybe you want to publish the title and abstract of a manuscript on the Repository, but because you are currently trying to submit the manuscript to a peer-reviewed journal or are trying to patent an invention described in the manuscript, you want to restrict who can actually access the file even as you want to claim your territory (as it were) by depositing your item in the Repository.
